John Landis’ Burke and Hare. I have no idea why this film didn’t get a proper release. It’s fantastic. In my humble opinion it is Landis the best he’s been since his golden years of Animal House or Coming To America.
The cast is also superb and it just feels like a goddamn’d John Landis movie!
Tony Richardson’s The Loved One. This is for fan’s of Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove. Written by: Terry Southern who also wrote Strangelove. It’s got a huge zany cast but instead of war it’s about a giant funeral home with Jonathan Winters acting as the Peter Sellers playing multiple roles.
The star of the film is Mad Men’s Bert Cooper, Robert Morse with a fake British accent.
Joel Anderson’s Lake Mungo. Last year I ended up chatting with Max Landis at an engagement party and asked him what he’d recommend as the scariest movie he’s seen that I wouldn’t know about. A question I like to ask when I meet other cinephiles. He swore Lake Mungo would scare the shit out of me and he was right.
