Mission Impossible 4: we did this at the Dome last night. It’s a butthole clencher and the best summer popcorn film to come out even if we had to wait till December.
Brad Bird really made Cruise feel like a John McClane or Indiana Jones in that he just gets clobbered for 2 hours with tons of clever bits AND Simon Pegg gets the job of putting a funny punchline on everything PLUS ROTDK trailer which was great too*

So excited to see Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol this week (already bought my Dome tickets!) not because of any other reason than it’s director Brad Bird (Iron Giant, Family Dog, The Simpsons, The Incredibles and Ratatouille).
Bird would come to my school often to give us our annual pep talk and basically slap us all around. He called animated features, “Singing beavers” and plead with us to push the medium forward and tell us his dream of making an animated film about “a guy going through a divorce”. He got so enraged one year making a point that he slammed his fist down on the podium sending his large iced tea into the air and onto his head. I would take every sentence to heart the way Max Fisher listened to Herman Bloom in church.
Years later I was interviewed to be part of the story crew for his then first feature, “Ray Gun” where he pitched a storyboard action sequence to a small room of students with all the fire of a new hire pitching to Jeffrey Katzenberg. It looked to be an epic film that never saw the light of day. He then went onto writing/directing The Iron Giant and the rest was history.
Anyways, seeing Mr. Bird’s live action directorial debut is big news in my house..
